So I made an appointment to see the doctor. The first thing he did was lean me back in the chair and immediately stuck a sharp metal instrument in the incision. It felt like a bee had just landed on me throat and stung me.
"I know it feels a bit weird," he said as he dug around in there. "Well, I can't get to the stitch. I'd have to cut your throat." I wasn't sure what he meant by that. I was too stunned by the pain to make much sense of anything and didn't think to ask him for clarification. I think he might have been trying to either tie everything back up or maybe he was just trying to clip the excess stitch.
I was basically worried that the incision would heal wrong because of the slight opening but he assured me it was okay. He told me to put some ointment on it until the redness went down so I guess that's all I can do. Hopefully it'll clear up soon. Other than that, it's healing as nice as can be expected.
About a week or so after surgery. |
About a month after surgery. You can see the area where the stitch popped. Except for that, looking better, no? |
We also got a statement in the mail saying the surgery was $19,000.00. Can you believe a golf ball size goiter could cost that much? Fortunately insurance paid for the majority of it.
Moving on...
I've been taking copious amounts of notes at work. Don't tell my boss but when things are slow (and they are always slow), I work on chapters for my book. It's kind of amazing how inspired I feel when I can't actually write anything down. I stand there and I get bored and my mind automatically goes into "writing mode."
But when I'm at home, it's the last thing I want to do. By the time I get off work, I'm tired and I just want to eat and go to bed. So, I try to compromise and write little snippets here and there when I'm working. When I know the boss man is gone, I'll get out some scratch paper and get going. I'm not blowing off my work or anything so I don't feel that bad. I just do it when I have some spare time, which is always.
The boss was away from work last week so I was able to get a lot accomplished. |
I didn't realize how many pages I had accumulated until I gathered them all together. |
If I'm feeling really bold, I use the computer in the back. I'm so naughty. |
I like to write outside sometimes. Tony joins me and proofreads my work. |
Moving on...
So, I've lost around 28 pounds now. The losing 60 pounds in 6 months thing obviously hasn't worked out. I should have lost close to 40 by now but I guess I'm not too worried about it. I'm just trying to not be crazy about it like I used to be. I might become obsessive eventually but for now I'm just trying to take it easy and just be glad to have lost as much as I have and look forward to losing more. The surgery definitely slowed down the weight loss but I can't use that as an excuse anymore. I'll get back on track and even if it takes me the rest of the year, I will take off the rest of the weight.
